Our History
What started as a small meat delivery business in 1907 has grown into one of Canada’s largest companies. But we haven’t forgotten our modest beginnings and a promise to put customers first. Our success can be attributed to strong community ties where teammates and customers are our family, friends, and neighbours.
In 1998, we merged with The Oshawa Group and its strong merchant network. Nine years later, we welcomed Thrifty Foods into the family. In 2012-2013 we expanded through Quebec, Atlantic, and the West with the acquisition of Shell fuel locations, Atlantic Co-ops, and Canada Safeway.
Our latest team member, Farm Boy, came onboard in 2018. Throughout this growth, we’ve maintained focus on our foundational values and evolved to meet the changing needs of our customers and communities.
Our Purpose
We are a family nurturing families fostering a culture of care, trust and respect. We tackle challenges head-on, together—supporting each other and our customers. By encouraging everyone to be their best, we can make an even bigger difference in our communities. That’s the benefit of a great team. The more we work together, the greater our success.
